The drug was bought worldwide, becoming highly addictive and was taken often by those who used it. However a "virus mutated inside the compound and became airborne" resulting in the deaths of the whole New New York and the rest of the world in "seven minutes flat."


"Gridlock"

Whilst explaining to the Doctor about the death of the entire senate and the fall of the city of New New York, Novice Hame removes a used Bliss patch from a corpse and explains about the virus created by the compound's mutation.
